Achievements & activities of FORHEX
 

The Federation of Rajasthan Handicraft Exporters was conceptualized to be the interface between the Handicraft Exporter Community & the Govt. and other related institutions in order, that the industry may grow and progress in totality. 

We have taken steps in the right direction, even though small once. To enumerate and recapitulate the activities of the Federation in the last two years.

The number of cause conscious members who are now associated with us has grown by 200% and as we add on to this strength further, FORHEX is gaining momentum every day.

We have amongst, us almost all the leading handicraft Exporters on various issues, benefiting all immensely. We are today widely recognized & respected by the bodies like EPCH, CBI, RCCI and the STATE GOVT., who confide in our advice when it comes to the Handicraft Export Scenario from Rajasthan.

   
» On 15th Sep 2001, EPCH & FORHEX conducted a seminar on WTO & it’s implications Subsequently, FORHEX was invited in the Review Committee set up by the Govt. to study the effects of WTO agreements & offer suggestions. 
   
» A 75 page report on research, study & suggestions was submitted by FORHEX in Dec 2002 which was highly appreciated by the Govt.
   
» Representations were made to ECGC to tale in their cover our suggestions for Handicraft Exporters in Oct. 2001.
   
» On 7th  Nov 2001 a seminar on VAT was jointly addressed by FORE & FORHEX.
   
» On the 10th of Nov 2001, we organized a seminar on Banking and FORHEX  Management wherein eminent authorities from the RBI & a leading Private Bank were invited to share their knowledge & expertise.
   
» On 18 April 2002- an interactive session on New Exim Policy with reference to Handicraft & Cottage industry was held.
   
» A workshop on latest Trends in home furnishings by international Experts, Ms Nein SIAO & Ms Cora Gotemann  was organized in alliance with EPCH & RCCI.
   
» Also organized during that were workshop, visits & seminars in labour laws & legal framework.
   
» On the 9th of  May 2002, a session on Techniques & latest trends in Visual Merchandizing by an international expert was held.
   
» Seminar on procedure & advantages of setting up a 100% EOU was jointly organized by FORHEX & FORE.

To commemorate the Annual Day of FORHEX – a symposium on Handicrafts : Threats & Challenges was organized on 5th of May 2002, viz –“VISION CRAFT 2010”. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of the State addressed the symposium.

During this, an effort was made to various departments were  invited viz  EXCISE, CUSTOMS, RIICO, INCOME TAX, ESI, PF, DIC, Labour DGFT, leading bankers & heads of shipping lines. 5 Master crafts person were felicitated for their achievements. 

   
» In July 2002, a seminar on Insurance & Banking rates was organized with an aim to make lowest rates available to everybody. 
   
» On Aug 08, 2002, we had our first Annual General Meeting in which we had promised our members – our  own premises within a year. Consequently, the FORHEX SECRETARIATE  started function from it’s own premises from the 4th of  April 2003.
   
» On 21th  Sept,2002, we conducted a seminar on IPR intellectual Property Rights wherein specialized Attorneys were invited to educate the members. The state Govt. too has agreed to form an IPR CELL at FORHEX. 
   
» Month of October saw all of us busy with the Autumn fair.
   
» In Nov. 2002, there was the celebration of being one big family as “Annual family Get-together” at the Bairath House, a farm House on Ajmer Road; the year before the families got together at NANDAN GREENS.
   
» Dec 2002 saw us organizing a seminar on Trade Fairs & Trade Marts with EPCH and India Exposition Mart ltd on the 22nd.
   
» January 2003 there was an interactive seminar with ECGC, wherein we gave a representation to their chairman on behalf of the Handicraft sector.
   
» In the same month on the 13th , there was a session on Income Tax Planning with the expert Shri R.N. Lakhotia.
   
» Meanwhile , the Federation has very actively taken up & is still pursuing the case of  ban Unlicensed Saw Mills. Legal opinion was sought & a representation was sent to the Central Empowered Committee.
   
» The hearings at CEC are still going on and FORHEX is working closely with the State  Forest Department in order that machines up to 24” may be freed from license.
   
» A brief on Cluster Development Project has also been submitted to the office of  DC Handicrafts and same is being pursued.

Between 8th of may to 13th of May 2003, the Center for promotion of imports from Developing Countries (CBI)  of the Govt. of Netherlands, conducted a workshop at FORHEX  office titled “ Export promotion programme for novel Handicrafts” where in their consultants Mr. Peter Chris Cooji Education the participants on a number of trade related topics.

Subsequently detailed individual counseling to 40 participant members was given by them over a period of 3 days which resulted in SELECTION of 5 FORHEX MEMBERS as participants at EXPRO – 44 seminar  at Rotterdam in June this year. 

CBI has agreed to take FORHEX  up as their Business Support Organization in India and for conduction of their programmes in other fields like Textiles, Stationary, Furniture etc. apart  from Handicrafts. It is no mean achievement for an organization so young.

It’s heartening to note that FORHEX is now being regularly invite by the state authorities to give input for policy formations & our suggestion are taken up seriously.

   
» Our Logo has been accepted by the authorities for Trade Mark registration & we can now proudly write the words TM on our Logo.
   
» The Federation has represented the interests of the handicraft sector at various levels and bodies, whether insurance or policy formation on an issue affecting the artisans at grass root level.

Annual Event of FORHEX " CRAFT VISION" was held on 16th January 2005 at Birla Auditorium, Statue Circle, Jaipur & to Dinner thereafter. The Hon'ble Vice President of India, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat were the Chief-Guest of the occasion.

FORHEX also facilitated the outstanding performers of the Handicraft & Textile Industry of the state with FORHEX AWARDS under many categories.

   
» FORHEX is continuously working towards integration of this still untapped sector in the state and efforts are on to build a world class, globally competitive sector in the state with everybody’s participation. The mood of handicraft export members is upbeat & their vision grand. At FORHEX, progress & achievement of aims is a continuous exercise.
   
» FORHEX launched Craft and Design Centre (CDC) in collaboration with IICD on 1st July 2005 with a vision to build and create design-oriented excellence in the handicraft products from Rajasthan for global competitiveness and international markets. Under CDC, till date, students of IICD/NIFT/NID etc., have undertaken 31 projects for various exporters and govt. organisations; 10 product development projects have been undertaken in Orissa; and currently, 21 product development projects have been completed with various exporters.
   
» CBI Workshop ( Interior Decoration & Design & individual Counseling Mr. Leo- Wallage & Mr. Kwami) from 4th July to 6th July 2005 At Club Grass Field, Shyam Nagar Jaipur.
   
» AGM and Election meeting 4th July 05 at Club Grass Field Jaipur.
   
» Family get together at Pushkar Resort 19th December 2005.
   
» Forhex & NCDPD organized one day Seminar dated 9th January 06 (Seminar on Quality Assurance Solutions and Global Certification) at Hotel Clarks Amer Jaipur.
   
» Seminar on 23rd March 06 (Vat & Service Tax) at Club Grassfield, Shyam Nagar Jaipur Implication of VAT by Shri Ravi Raniwala & Shri Pankaj Ghiya Service Tax and Central Excise on Wooden handicrafts (Furniture) by Shri Pankaj Malik.
   
» Seminar on RoHS by SGS, Gurgaon and FSC certification by Dr. Manoharan of WWF India at Hotel Clarks Amer, Jaipur.
   
» An informal meet of all the prominent players,viz., president and secretary, of various important Handicraft Associations of the State was called, and a discussion on streamlining the various procedural formalities was held.
   
» FORHEX got notified by the State Govt. towards Issuance of Saw Mill Licences.
   
» In view of this, a separate wing of ancilliary members, (members who are suppliers to the exporters) was introduced. We very proudly declare that few of FORHEX members have been able to obtain the Saw Mill Licences.
   
» A team of FORHEX members, met the Finance Secretary, Shri Rajiv Mehrishi, and has already submitted the representation in the Commercial Taxes Deptt., requesting them to consider a few revisions towards the welfare of the exporter’s community.
   
» An informal meet of IEML Mart Owners was organized at Hotel Clarks Amer,on 29th July 2006, where all the mart owners discussed their queries. The meeting was presided by Shri Navratan Samdariya and Shri Rakesh Kumar. They also verbally agreed to accommodate a few suggestions given by the mart-owners.
   
» Annual General Meet was held on 12th August 2006 in Hotel Country-Inn, Jaipur.
   
» Workshop on “Export Development for office and school supply” was conducted on 22nd September 2006 in Hotel Country Inn, wherein Ms. Yolanda Netto, consultant from CBI trained our members on successful EU market entry.
   
» Workshop on “Effective trade-fair participation” was organised from 15-17 November 2006, in Hotel Bella Casa, Jaipur, in order to provide support to exporting organisations that were planning to attend trade fairs. The workshop offered exporters the opportunity to become fully familiar with the necessary knowledge, tools and skills to prepare and co-ordinate professional group/country presentations in international trade fairs in Europe.
   
» In view of the catastrophe that the unexpected Flash Floods brought in, in the Barmer & Jaisalmer Districts of our State, FORHEX decided upon helping in the rehabilitation of the artisans of the Barmer district in the interest of the trade. Working towards this noble cause, FORHEX contributed towards a nucleus which is being utilized in Construction of 55 houses in Ramsar and 51 house in villages near Gadra Road. The construction work is already in progress.
   
» As a recent development, Shri Dileep Baid, president, FORHEX was elected as the Vice Chairman of the EPCH, the apex-body working towards the growth and spread of handicrafts of India at the national level in November 2006.
   
» Annual Event of FORHEX " FORHEX Awards Ceremony & An evening with Punkaj Udhas was held on 17th March 2007 at Birla Auditorium.  Param Pujya Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji [President, Art of Living Foundation] were the chief guest of the award ceremony, He distributed Prizes along with other Hon'ble Guests. Shri Laxminarayan Dave were Guest of Honour [Hon'ble Minister for Forest, Environment & Mines, Rajasthan, India]. Thereafter a music show was held by Punkaj Udhas. All the Guest, Members, Visitors and Participants appreciated the Program and Award Ceremony.
   
» FORHEX organised its Annual Family Get Together cum over night stay on 28th - 29th July 2007 at Hotel Le Meridian, Jaipur.  Various activities were planned for the members & their families.

In the present scenario, there is an apprehension that the Rupee will continue to maintain its current level over the next few months, making it an issue which has become a major concern for the entire exporter community.

In view of the same, FORHEX joined hands with International School of Informatics and Management (Formerly India International Institute of Management) to discuss various possibilities to avert the erosion of India’s export competitiveness in the international market. FORHEX organised a seminar on the above issue , which was held on 11th August 2007, Saturday at the Auditorium of International School of  Informatics and Management (Formerly India International Institute of Management) from 4.00 to 6.00p.m.

   
» FORHEX organised an interactive sesion with Dr. S.S. Agrawal, IAS, Addl. Director General of Foreign TradeNew Delhi on 13th September 2007 at Hotel Bella Casa, Jaipur.

FORHEX joined hands with Exim Bank to update its members on how EXIM Bank caters to the specific needs of the export business. The members immensely gained from this interactive session.

The program also included abrief presentation to disseminate information on the competitive advantages and facilities offered by The British Midlands region, which is the manufacturing hub of UK, and located in the heart of the most successful investment economy in Europe. Ms. Chandrika Shah, Country Representative, The British Midlands, UK, addressed an exclusive gathering of our members on “Business Opportunities in The British Midlands”. The Interactive Session was held at Nahargarh Hall, SMS Convention Centre, on Friday, December 7, 2007.  It was followed by High-Tea.

   
» ECGC conducted a seminar exclusively for the members of FORHEX to tailor-make their products keeping in view the requirements of our members at Hotel Golden Tulip on 6th February 2008.  Mr. M Senthilnathan, DGM & RM, Northern Region, ECGC addressed to the specific problems of FORHEX members.
   
» FORHEX organised its Annual Family Get Together cum over night stay on 9th - 10th August 2008 at Hotel K. K. Royal Days, Jaipur. Various activities were planned for the members & their families.

Three day FORHEX – CBI (Center for the promotion of imports from developing countries - A Netherlands Government Organisation) Seminar on “Product Development training Home Textile & Home Decoration, Accessories and Gifts” was organized on 18th Sept to 20th Sept 2008 in Jaipur at Hotel Golden Tulip.

The consultants had come from CBI to give the training to our Forhex and Non Forhex members from all over India.

The Annual General Meeting of our Federation held on Saturday, the 01st November 2008, at 7.00 PM at The Senate Hall, Hotel Golden Tulip, Bani Park, Jaipur.

 

Mr. Mathur- Head of Business development Mahindra World City Jaipur presented the concept of MWCJ for handicraft industry with an interactive session with members on 1st Nov. 2008 at Hotel Golden Tulip, Jaipur.

   
» An Interactive Session for Forhex members with Commissioner Customs & Central Excise Dr. D. K. Verma and other senior officials of Custom and Excise Department related to Excise and Custom issues, suggestions  and Service Tax Refund was organized on December 02, 2008 at Commissioner, Central Excise Office, NCR Building, Statue Circle, Jaipur.
   
» FORHEX with EPCH & NCDPD organized a seminar on "Challenges & Opportunities for Handicrafts Sector" on 28th January, 2009 at Hotel Bella Casa, Jaipur to cover up technical and procedural issues on REACH certification, Statutory Factory Compliances in Handicrafts sector, Product Diversification & Development and Technology Up-Gradation. The key speakers were invited from Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai and Bangalore. Seminar was attended by more than 100 exporter members.
   
» FORHEX with CDC came up with a project, exclusively for FORHEX members in Textile Sector. Four projects were initiated with four textile members of FORHEX to develop a collection using stock lot fabrics and developing new ranges referred as Inverted Luxury. Project started on March 4th, 2009 for 6 weeks and this pilot foray was successfully accomplished between IICD students, Textile Sector Members of FORHEX and Textile Designer Ms. Neha Puri.

Two days workshop of FORHEX in collaboration with CBI - Center for the promotion of imports from Developing Countries - A Netherlands Government Organisation on Financial Crisis - "Towards Recovery, tools in coping with economic downturn” was organized on 4th & 5th June, 2009 at Hotel Golden Tulip in Jaipur. The focus of this workshop was on Worldwide Economic Recession in the current scenario. The CBI External Experts - Mr. Martin Bitter and Mr. Nick Meijer had come from The Netherland, to provide the solutions for the issues raised by different exporters. The main objectives of this workshop were

  1. To inform about the current economic recession: what is happening globally and in particular in Europe?
  2. Formulation of tools (tips & tricks) to deal with the effect of the recession in the day-to-day business of SMEs in the developing countries (on the operational and tactical level).
  3. Creation of environment to inspire participants to formulate roadmaps for the future: what needs to be done within the next 1 or 2 years in order to go towards recovery and to be ready for the expected growth once the recession is over.

» Ten designers from Bangaladesh under the study program from Bangladesh Small & Cottage Industries Corporation visited factories from different sectors of FORHEX members on 13th June, 2009 on a Design Development Program with EPCH, New Delhi.
   
» FORHEX had recently organized a three day Trade Fair of Handicrafts, the first of its kind to promote Rajasthani Art & Culture as FORHEX FAIR from 14th to 16th August, 2009 at Birla Auditorium, Jaipur. The Forhex Fair was a grand success with the overwhelming response and footfall of almost 30,000 people from National as well as International level. This fair had provided an environment to showcase the widest possible range of handicrafts & textiles. It was a platform for direct marketing of the products made by local artisans, the student bodies of various craft & design institute of the exporters thereby providing them rich clientele of local, national as well as international buyers on the soil of Rajasthan. With a continuous shift in global economic of scale as well as the recessive times being faced… this event gave the sustainable spring board to our local craft & textile industry which gives widespread employment at grass-root & rural cum sub-urban sector.

Owing to the huge positive response, The dates of the FORHEX FAIR for the next year have already been announced from 13th to 15th August, 2010 at Birla Auditorium, Jaipur.

   
» The Annual General Meeting of our Federation held on Tuesday, the 29th September, 2009, at 7.00 PM at The Senate Hall, Hotel Golden Tulip, Bani Park, Jaipur.
   
» Participation of FORHEX at National Vendor Development Programme cum Exhibition & Business Expo organized by MSME at Birla Auditorium on 20th & 21st November, 2009. A great zeal of interest was shown for the forthcoming Forhex Fair 2010.
   
» Due to the tragedy of IOCL fire at Sitapura Industrial area, an Interactive Session on “Safety and Insurance of the Enterprises” was organised on 24th November, 2009, at CDOS, Sitapura Industrial Area, Jaipur. In order to provide assistance to export organisations about the first response in case of any casualty and Insurance options available for the enterprises.
   
» FORHEX organised its Annual Family Get Together cum over night stay on 19th - 20th December 2009 at Cambay Golf Resort, Jamdoli, Jaipur.  Various activities were planned for the members & their families.
   
» An Interactive Session held with MSME officials to know the various schemes of MSME on 28th January, 2010.
